The Daniel Fast

(Daniel 6: 10-14)

In Daniel's fast of 21 days, he ate "no pleasant bread, nor flesh, nor wine" (Dan. 10:3). Actually, Daniel did eat something, but he abstained from pleasant foods. God has not given specific instructions about fasting because it is to be a private matter between an individual and the Lord. God has promised, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou halt go: I will guide thee with mine eye" (Psalm 32:8). This precious promise applies to fasting. When should you fast? For how long? What should you abstain from as you fast? God will lead you personally and clearly in all of these things if you are walking in fellowship with Him.

The Annual Daniel Fast is a forty-day journey toward personal renewal, rejuvenation, reflection, renovation, restoration, refreshment, recommitment, and rededication beginning on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday (excluding Sundays).

The Daniel Fast is life changing. As we prepare our minds, bodies and spirits for this consecrated and anointed journey with God -  - it is important to:

1.  Read the WORD for strength and renewal.  2.  Receive Ashes on Ash Wednesday; 3.  Be served communion on Ash Wednesday; 4.  Anoint yourself three times on Ash Wednesday. 5.  Pray without ceasing - in season and out of season

Ashes represent the first day of Lent.  Churches use ashes during Ash Wednesday worship in a ritual called the Imposition of Ashes.  The ashes come from the burned palms from the previous Palm Sunday.  They are mixed with a small amount of oil and applied to the forehead of each worshipper.  This mark in the sign of a cross is a powerful reminder of our total dependence on God for forgiveness and salvation. The communion on that day will be your celebration and remembrance of God's grace and mercy in Jesus, the resurrection of Christ, and of Christ's continuing presence with us. It will provide us the opportunity to renew our covenant made with God and to be rededicated to service in Jesus name. The oil for anointing is your way of making yourself HOLY and dedicating yourself to GOD.
